What is the GAT exam?

GAT stands for Graduate Assessment Test. It’s a standardized exam that evaluates candidates for admission to master’s and doctoral programs. Applicants can take the test if they have completed sixteen years of education. The GAT exam is conducted by NTS in Pakistan. The validity of the GAT result for admissions is “TWO YEARS”. NTS conducts the GAT exam each within the two and three months in a year. Students can appear in the test repeatedly to improve their scores.

Types of GAT:

GAT has two types.

  • GAT- Subject
  • GAT- General

The GAT-Subject score is compulsory for Ph.D. admissions and the GAT-General score is compulsory for MS admissions.

How to prepare for GAT?

GAT preparation is not required, if you are good at Maths and English. The majority of the students do not prepare for the exam and easily score a good percentage. However, I will provide some tips to study for the GAT exam in only three days. There are many books on GAT-General available in the market and online too. Dogar Brothers is the best book for the preparation. They will provide good sample papers for exams and practice questions too. Going deep through those past papers will be enough for good scores.


Why GAT score is important?

A GAT score is important to get admission to the university for a master’s program. The GAT-General score is used for admissions in Mpil programs and the GAT-Subject score is required for admissions in Phd programs. NUST (National University of Science and Technology) accepts GAT-General scores for MS admissions. A 50% score is valid to apply for admission, however, to secure your seat, you must score at least 70% percentage in the GAT test.
